Van Bommel joined AZ on a free transfer from hometown club MVV Maastricht. During the 2024/25 season, he appeared in 33 matches for AZ, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. His impressive performance has made him a target for several top clubs.
Van Bommel is part of the Dutch U21 side that made a strong run in the Under-21 European Championships. He provided an assist in the final group stage match against Ukraine but was sent off in the quarter-final against Portugal.
Van Bommel is currently under contract with AZ until 2027. The Alkmaar club will participate in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League later this month.
