At just 17 years old, Essugo is a promising young player who has already gained experience playing in La Liga with Las Palmas last season. He is also a Portugal Under-21 international and has played for Sporting's academy since he was a young boy.
Essugo made his senior debut for Sporting at the age of 16 years and six days, becoming the youngest-ever player to feature for the club. He later broke another record by becoming the youngest starter for Sporting at just 16 years and 11 months old.
Chelsea has acquired Essugo for a reported €22.3 million (£18m) and is expected to play a key role in the team under the guidance of coach Enzo Maresca next season.
