"I have a very honest relationship with Nelson," Pereira said. "He told me that after five years, he might want to find a new challenge. I understand that, but I need to feel he's being honest with me."

Pereira prefers to know the truth upfront, rather than waiting for a decision. He appreciates Semedo's contributions to the team and is offering him a good contract, but ultimately, the club needs to look to its future.

"We need to find a solution that's good for everyone," Pereira said.
