England midfielder Foden shared his thoughts after the match, saying, “I seem to score most of my goals in and around the box. So, I was just staying alive and waiting for the ball to fall to me. When it did, I put it away nicely. I'm really happy about it.”
He also expressed his happiness for the team, saying, “I'm very happy that we started the tournament with a win. It was challenging at times due to the heat, as we're not used to playing in such conditions. We had to keep the ball and be more patient.”
Foden praised the opposing team, saying, “Fair play to them, they're a top team on the counter attack. They created several scoring chances that we had to deal with. I'm happy with our performance and the three points we earned.”
When asked about his goalscoring form, Foden said, “It's a new season, and I'm looking forward to it. I just need to keep training well and be the best version of myself. Hopefully, I can perform like this in every game.”
On Doku's impressive goal, Foden said, “I didn't see it until I came off the pitch. I saw it later on the replay. What a finish – it was a difficult technique. He made it look easy.”
He also praised his teammates, saying, “They're all top players. They've settled in really well. I'm excited to keep playing with them.”
