Tuchel was a huge admirer of Mount during their time at Chelsea, and his pass set up Kai Havertz for the winning goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City. Mount has revealed that Tuchel has been in contact, and he is hoping to break back into the England squad. "He called me," said Mount. "He said he's been calling a lot of players and just wanted to catch up. I don't know how many players he probably called, 40 or 50 maybe?"
Mount played a significant role under Tuchel at Chelsea, helping the team win the Champions League. However, he acknowledges that the England team is different from club football, with more competition for places and a larger pool of players to choose from. "I think it's totally different now," said Mount. "The competition with places, the amount of people he can pick, it's a bit different than club football."
Tuchel's call has given Mount a boost, but he knows there are no guarantees of a spot in the England squad. Despite their shared history, Tuchel made it clear that even with Mount's past experience, he must work hard to earn a place in the team. "He said to me there's no guarantees, even though you played for me," said Mount. "But it gives you more, you want to push even more, to be able to be back in the squad."
Mount is focused on his club football first, but he is excited about the opportunity to play for his country again. "As a player, you always want to play for your country and that's such a big honour, to play for your country," he said. "Any opportunity that you get to put that shirt on is amazing."
Mount is now focused on the upcoming season with Manchester United, who are looking to bounce back from their worst season in history. "I think it's about kicking on from where I was last season," he said. "Putting that behind me, the injuries and stuff, and looking forward to what I can do. Focusing on what I bring to the team and knowing what I can do."
