However, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also reportedly keen on signing Guehi, and he is now preferring a move to La Liga.

The defender's preference for a Spanish club may be influenced by the fact that players with African nationality are considered Spanish nationals in Spain, thanks to the Cotonou Agreement between the EU and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

Guehi was born in Liberia and has recently renewed his Liberian passport.
