The vineyard was worried that if Palmer started selling wine, their brand could be confused with his, potentially damaging their reputation. Chateau Palmer has a long history, dating back to 1814 when it was acquired by British army officer Charles Palmer. The estate has been producing wine for many years, even predating Palmer's time with Chelsea.
The vineyard's wine is highly regarded, with Royal wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd describing it as "among the greatest anywhere in Bordeaux." A bottle of their 1970 Cru Classé Margaux wine is priced at £750, a significant investment for wine enthusiasts.
